These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Garrell Tech Solutions LLC ("we," "us"), the operator of Layman’s Lawyer. By using the service, you agree to these Terms.
Layman’s Lawyer provides automated, plain-language summaries of public court records. It is not legal advice, it does not create an attorney-client relationship, and it may be incomplete or wrong. The original court document always controls. For advice about your situation, consult a licensed attorney.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or purchase a subscription. By using Layman’s Lawyer, you confirm that you are.
2. The service
Layman’s Lawyer helps you find, read, and follow public U.S. court records, with plain-language summaries and timelines built from official dockets.
3. Not legal advice
Nothing on Layman’s Lawyer is legal advice, and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship. Our summaries and timelines are automated and may be incomplete or inaccurate. The original court document always controls. For advice about your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney.
4. Source data and accuracy
Our data comes from third-party public sources, including CourtListener and the RECAP archive, along with other public court records. This data may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Layman’s Lawyer is not a substitute for the official court record (such as PACER or the court clerk), and we are not affiliated with PACER, the federal courts, or any court system.
5. Automated and AI-generated content
Summaries and timelines are generated by automated systems, including AI models, and are provided on an "as is" basis. Always verify against the linked original document.
6. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
7. Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans are billed through our payment processor, Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, and your access continues through the end of the current paid period. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by law. We may change prices with advance notice, and you are responsible for any applicable taxes.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the service. That includes not scraping or automatically harvesting the service, not reselling or redistributing it, not using it for unlawful purposes, and not attempting to disrupt, attack, or gain unauthorized access to it.
9. Intellectual property
The Layman’s Lawyer name, interface, and our plain-language summaries are owned by or licensed to us. The underlying court records are public. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the service for your own personal or internal use.
10. Third-party services
The service links to and relies on third-party sources and providers. We are not responsible for third-party content, websites, or services.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Garrell Tech Solutions LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $100 if you paid nothing.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Garrell Tech Solutions LLC harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the service or your violation of these Terms.
14. Termination
We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms. You can stop using the service and cancel your subscription at any time.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If a dispute arises, please contact us first at support@laymanslawyer.app so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute we can’t resolve that way will be handled by the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. If you keep using the service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
