2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service:

• Account information — your email address and name (including from Google sign-in) and the identifiers our authentication provider uses to sign you in.
• Billing information — handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your card number; we keep your subscription status and Stripe customer identifiers.
• Usage information — the cases you follow, the searches you run, and your email and notification preferences.
• Communications — newsletter sign-ups and the docket-alert emails you opt into.
• Technical information — privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics and the essential cookies needed to keep you signed in.

3. How we use your information

• Provide and operate the service, including the summaries and timelines you request.
• Send the alerts, digests, and emails you ask for.
• Process payments and manage subscriptions.
• Understand which cases people want so we can improve coverage.
• Keep the service secure and troubleshoot problems.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run Layman’s Lawyer, and only as needed to operate it:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and hosting of your data.
• Stripe — payment processing.
• Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and email.
• Vercel — privacy-friendly analytics.
• Google — optional sign-in.
• CourtListener / the Free Law Project and other public sources — the court data we summarize.
• AI model providers — used to generate plain-English summaries of public court documents, not your personal information.

5. We do not sell your data

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. Our analytics are privacy-friendly and do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

7. Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete it at any time, and we will — except where we are required to keep certain records (such as billing history) by law.

8. Your choices and rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and unsubscribe from our emails, at any time. To make a request, email support@laymanslawyer.app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law (for example, California residents); we honor those requests for all users.

9. Children’s privacy

Layman’s Lawyer is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

10. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including row-level access controls and encryption in transit. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes may be communicated by email or in the app.
